On Monday, the Montecito Fire Department urged people to leave their homes right away due to the torrential rain that had been falling since the early hours of the morning and is expected to get worse throughout the afternoon and evening. Later, the fire department tweeted that the high volume of traffic had caused their website to crash.
At least eight inches of rain fell in 12 hours, according to the National Weather Service. As the storm system moved through the wooded hillsides and secluded large homes, several more inches were anticipated.
After that, emergency officials in Santa Barbara issued a “shelter in place” warning, directing those who had not yet left to the innermost room or higher ground.
After days of heavy rain, snow, and damaging winds, California is expected to experience more severe weather this week. This raises the risk of flooding, rising rivers, and mudslides on soils that are already saturated.
